Grinding Up Quality

Gamet Bearings, the Colchester based tapered roller manufacturer, has invested £250,000 in its grinding operations. At the core of the investment is the purchase of a Studer S31 universal cylindrical grinding machine which, when fully commissioned, will replace 9 existing grinding and 2 grading machines.

Studer, a Swiss based company which has been established almost 100 years, was selected from a long line of candidates. The company, which exports in excess of 95% of the machines it designs and builds, has sold over 16,000 machines since it was established by Fritz Studer, just before the first world war.

The investment by Gamet was stimulated by a need to increase output due to rising demand for the company’s Q and QK grade super precision tapered roller bearings. In recent years the company has been recognised by many machine tool manufacturers as being one of the best and most reliable designers and manufacturers of tapered roller bearings. Many prestigious grinding machine manufacturers now use Gamet bearings in their machines and demand is increasing daily as machine tool manufacturers recognise that the accuracy of their machines is critically dependent upon using components of the highest quality.
